#Yoga Suggestion for Walking the Soulful Path #Celibacy

To be done in thought, word and deed. Non-violence. truthfulness, non-stealing

Celibacy – this can be very confusing. Most people think of celibacy as abstaining from sexual intercourse. It really means to refrain from being obsessed by cravings of sensual desire.  The senses left uncontrolled will cause over indulgence and scattered our energy. Celibacy therefore means purification.  Whenever we crave anything of the senses we suffer and lose our ability to focus on what is important in life and that is our health, happiness and peace of mind. Craving means we become obsessed with having what we want and not necessarily what we need. We are not satisfied until we possess. But remember whatever we have right now can disappear in a moment. A drug addict spends all his or her energy searching for the next fix. How can there be happiness in this?

All things in life are separate from the real us, which is our soul. We experience life through the senses. We say I am hungry or I am tired, but it is not you that is hungry or tired; it is your body. You can change your outfit to fit the occasion, but no matter how you dress or where you go, you are always the same soul. Become the observer of life and not the sensual addict.

Detachment from worldly desires is to practice celibacy. It means to reserve your energy and not squander it. We should enjoy the pleasures of life, but never be so attached that we become obsessed. Everything in life comes and goes.

To practice celibacy avoid obscene and lewd expressions and jokes. Sensual experience should be for the enjoyment and beauty of life. Therefore be kind, loving and be respectful. The sensual experience is the closest we get to touch another person’s soul. The joy a soul feels when moving into the physical plane of sensual enjoyment is pure bliss. When experiencing the physical aspect of sexuality you are opening up a doorway for another soul to enter. Whether the soul chooses to enter or not love is the best way to direct this energy. Celibacy is not about abstaining. It is about refraining from wasting energy by obsessing on the sensual desires of life. It is about experiencing all of life with the purity of un-obsessed love. To practice celibacy - Be detached but not indifferent.

#Yoga Guidepost ~ suggestions for your thoughts, words and deeds

Non- stealing – involves thoughts, words and deeds. To most people this means not taking something that does not belong to you, or that you have not paid for, or been given. In yoga it is best defined as not improperly taking something that belongs to another.  That includes their possessions, their dignity and their freedom of thought. If you want something you must earn it. If it has not come into your life you have not earned it. Anything coming into your life that you have earned will bring you happiness and anything that comes into your life that has not been earned will bring you struggle, difficulty and unhappiness.  Don’t confuse stealing with simply taking things. It also means to not take another person’s self-confidence and self-esteem by ridiculing and criticizing. We are all entitled to our own beliefs and the freedom to walk the soulful path. If you must disagree do it with respect.

To think of stealing is stealing.  Taking another person’s dignity, pride, happiness, moment of glory and mental values through verbally abusive words is verbal stealing. And of course we should not take anything physically that does not belong to us. Anything taken through deceit, force or without permission will only bring you difficulty and unhappiness. If you must take something leave something of equal value. Only take what you have earned. If you do not have something it simply means you have not earned it yet. Karma means work. To practice non-stealing - Be content.

YOGA TODAY TRUTHFULNESS

All suggestions should be considered in thought, word and deed.

Truthfulness means to conduct your thoughts, words and actions according to the truth. The truth however can get somewhat murky. Thoughts, words and action that harm even if true should not be done. The guiding factor when it comes to walking the soulful path is to do no harm. However, if you must do something that will cause harm make sure you are doing it for the greatest good and for the greatest many. Look to intention.

What is the truth? All you need to do is get quiet and search within your soul. You will know. Then with a quiet mind speak and act in truthful ways, but always keep your intentions in mind. If the intention is to hurt and the truth hurts refrain from speaking or taking any action.

Physical truth means to unify yourself so as to act in ways that uplifts you and all those you encounter. Truth that has been understood intellectually and expressed in words will manifest itself into worthy and good actions.

Another aspect of truthfulness is keeping your word. However, there may be times when keeping your word is not possible. Again it comes back to intent. Circumstances in life may make the truth a difficult choice. Here is something to thinks about:

Once upon a time a yogi sage was meditating in the woods. A beautiful deer jumped past him and ran off into the woods. Very soon a hunter came by and asked the yogi if he had seen the deer and which way it ran. If the yogi tells the truth the hunter will kill the deer. This will create harm. If on the other hand he does not tell the truth the hunter and his family will starve. What should he do? Always choose the greatest good for the greatest many.

Some say the truth should only be spoken from a place of careful thought and some say truth should be spoken without consideration of its potential to hurt. In our modern day society it is important to reflect before speaking.  The world will often hurt each of us if we are not wise in how we think, speak and use the truth. If the truth will hurt or cause dissention be silent and do nothing. Nonviolence and truth together bring about peace. Don’t stop looking at all sides of an issue. It’s easy to get caught up in your own view of things and believe it to be the only truth. The truth has many facets and is never clearly black and white. What is the truth? You are the truth. Just listen and you will know. To practice truthfulness - Be honest.

#Yoga Today Suggested Guidepost #Nonviolence

Part of the practice of yoga is to be open, aware and observant of the power of suggestion. These suggestions are simply things you might want to consider when it comes to living your life. They are not rules. You don’t need to follow them. But they might bring a deep sense of understanding to your life.  Don’t worry about mastering them. Just be aware of how and when they appear in your life and how you handle them. Let them sit in your subconscious mind and watch them appear as guidepost along the path of Soul Walking.

All suggestions should be considered in thought, word and deed.

Nonviolence is the first suggestion. When we think of violence we often think of physical abuse. Although this is one form of violence, negative and hateful thoughts, as well as harsh and mean words are a form of violence. Gossip, insulting statements and bad advice are also forms of verbal violence. Remember that violence towards you, as well as allowing or encouraging others to be violent is to be avoided.

Your “soul” purpose for being here is to find and walk the soulful path.  Self-centeredness, inconsideration, lack of compassion and violence will take you off the soulful path. It matters not how far you get, but what you do along the way. Reincarnation is simply another chance to get back on the path. However, the farther you get in this lifetime the shorter the journey in the next.

Nonviolence does not mean only outward violence. It also means violence towards you. Self-criticism always hurts the soul. Cruel and angry thoughts, words and deeds toward others will also take you off the path. You are not about your body and your mind, but your body and your mind are about you. They are the vehicle and the GPS for your soul. So treat them well and most of all make sure you are kind to yourself. That inner kindness will radiate outward and be received by everyone and everything you encounter. To practice nonviolence - Be kind.

Don’t Confuse the Map for the Territory

Maya – the Illusion (what does it mean?)

Maya means illusion or boundaries and can be quite confusing. It does not mean that the world is not real. The world is made up of real experiences through which we gain real knowledge into the nature of our purusa or our real being. It is not the world that is the illusion, but our interpretation of the experience.

As we move through life we become defined by our experiences. As our knowledge of life develops we are constantly trying to refine what define us.  Understanding the nature of the real purpose of life, we no longer need to live within boundaries and false perceptions of what we should be or what we think will make us happy.  Removing the maya we see the proverbial forest for the trees. We begin to realize that our experiences are like the different trees; however they make up one forest.  The details of our lives are less important than the overall picture and yet it is through the details that we have a chance to discover the lessons and the meaning of life. Don’t confuse the map for the territory!

We control how we interpret the world by the choices we make.  But when presented with a choice how do we make the right choice? Look to your purusa- your soul.

Millionaires come and go. Beauty fades. What might be important today might mean nothing tomorrow. Understanding this we realize that the maya or the illusion is in believing that life is about boundaries, bank accounts and material possessions. It is not the material world that defines us, but rather it is how we use the material world to define and refine our being.  We need the world to help us create our lives. We are here as a physical and mental being to assist the soul’s evolution and so we need the world to help us evolve. Use the world but do not be used by it.

Just remember the world is here for you to use. Nothing in it is permanent. Everything is subject to change. You cannot run away from anything or stop things from changing. That is because change is inevitable and the only constant in the universe. Be alert and aware of maya.  Remember the world is real. Your interpretation of it is the illusion. Life will present you with problems to solve and decisions to make. Learn to solve your problems and master the illusion by connecting to your purusa; your soul. Remember you are here as a body, mind and soul to do the work (karma) so that the soul evolves. Choose wisely and you will navigate the territory of life using the map of awareness, compassion and understanding. In this you will never confuse the map for the territory.

How to Open the Positive Time Gates

The balancing of the chakras determines how we approach life. Each chakra has a negative spin and a positive spin. For example if you are feeling grounded strong and secure your root chakra is balanced and spinning in a positive direction. If the direction is negative you are feeling spacey, clingy or overly stubborn. When we practice yoga we work to balance the chakras and give them a positive spin. When this happens you open yourself up to finding creative and prosperous time gates.

Our attitude, perception and the depth of our wisdom determines whether we step though prosperous or disastrous time gates. Your karma will constantly be drawing you to certain gates. These are situation to gain or lose. How you interact with people and situations determine the outcome. You are what you think, say and do. If you are not working your karma you will become bound to the gates of disaster and destruction. The gate to prosperity may open before you, but because of your karmic blindness you might walk right by it.

Being aware and open to opportunity allows you to discover positive time gates and to avoid negative ones. You cannot be in a hurry to find them, but you must know what you are looking to find and stay open to all the possibilities.

To accomplish this you must work on your karma – don’t fall into D-GAP; deceit, greed, anger and pride will blind you from the opportunities of  life.. When these four arise, and they will, try to work them through; be honest, be generous, be compassionate and forgiving, and be humble.

Let’s get to work.

Being stuck in negativity at the lower chakras and at the lower layers of your being will blind you from the prosperous time gates and bind you to the destructive gates. Free up your energy, lighten your load and keep your eyes open for opportunity. Work on your karma and be aware. Remember not to fall into D-GAP. Replace deceit, greed, anger and pride with honesty, generosity, compassion and forgiveness, and be humble.

Time Gates ~ Opportunity or Burden

Karma means cause and effect. With our without consciously being aware your life is constantly changing. One of the ways it changes is with time gates.

Time gates are passageways or spaces we step into at a particular time that change the direction of our life.  Time gates exist everywhere without regards for time. They are simply space providing the means for change.  When we refer to change we refer to time and not space.  However, all points in space are relative to one another and therefore a time gate cannot exist in empty space. It must be linked to a specific event and events happen as a result of time.

Wherever you are in the world you will be faced with time gates. These gates are constantly opening and closing. When we step through a time gate we either consciously or unconsciously set off a stream of time space events that can have a power influence upon our life. In an instant our life can change. An artist is discovered, a lover is found, and a leader is toppled. From the outside it appears that a person’s life has changed dramatically for better or for worse when in fact one has simply stepped through a time gate and the space you occupy has changed. Whether it is prosperous or not depends upon a number of circumstances. What might appear to be a stroke of luck might turn out to be a burden. Just remember in life things aren’t always as they appear to be. If you want to discover time gates you must become aware of what you think, say and do. An artist is not suddenly discovered. He or she is focused, determined, and does the work.  When the time is right a time gate opens. The work you do determines whether it is prosperous or disastrous.  That’s karma. Let’s get started.

Karma means cause and effect. You are what you think, say and do. Be consciously aware of time gates; events in your life that may bring you good luck or may bring you a burden. Just remember, life becomes what life does ~Doctor Lynn

Karma ~You are Soul here to Walk the Soulful Path

Remember the soul is you the spirit is the energy that puts you on the soulful path. It is up to you to discover the path and then guide yourself along its way. Remember the D-GAP – deceit, greed anger and pride – we all carry these passions with us. One is more intense in your life. For example if you should discover anger along the path of life remember it is a human emotion. Recognize it and realize that when expressed it makes you an angry person and it is detrimental to your physical and mental health. Then use the soul’s moral compass to help you release it and you will find peace. This is the work of karma and why you have reincarnated.

Reincarnation will not provide you with a straight and clear path. You will soon discover that from here to there is never a straight line. There will be many twist and turns, as well as many detours. There will be low valleys and high mountain tops, as well as many ravines. How low you go or how high you climb will depend upon your moral compass. Let it be your guide.

When life takes you on a detour don’t resent it, fear it or avoid it. Be on the lookout for opportunities, adventures and chances to learn and grow. You never know what you will find.

Trust in yourself, follow your moral compass and watch out for time gates. But remember as long as karma is pushing you towards the path you are not on the path. Soul walking is the path of freedom. You must first discover your primary piece of karma and then neutralize it so that you can walk the path not because of karma, but because you have discovered a sense of the true nature of your journey which is to walk on earth free from all encumbrances’ body, mind and soul.

Write down in your journal the things in this lifetime that attract you and that come easily to you. Then write down the things that you struggle with.

Are you Spirit or Are You Soul?

After class one day a student asked me a question about what it meant to be spiritual person. Someone she knows calls herself a spiritual person. I am going to try and answer her question. Spirituality is different than the body, the mind and the soul and yet spiritualty is all three of them working together. Spirituality is the force that moves energy and causes life to exist.

A person is not spiritual. As humans we are all walking the path of life because of the spiritual force of the universe. We call this prana or the force that gives rise to all of life. We are here with a body, a mind and soul working to undo some piece of karma.

The body is the vehicle. The mind is the GPS. The soul is the part of you that is here beneath your body and behind the mind. Sometimes you get a hunch, a feeling or perhaps a quiet moment when you sense the nature of your soul. In that moment you know you are touching something deeper within yourself. The soul holds your mission. The spirit initiates the process of discovery. Practicing karma yoga helps us to initiate the process of discovering and mastering our mission.

Your soul has taken this body and this mind to complete the mission. It’s up to you to discover the mission, get on the path and walk with your soul. Most likely anyone who says they are spiritual may in fact simply mean that they are soulfully walking the spiritual path one step at a time. They are not the spiritual force, but because of the spiritual force they begin to walk the path. You are a soul walking the spiritual path and not a spiritual being walking the soulful path. There is a difference. The soul is you. The spirit is the force that gives rise to life.

When trying to walk along a certain path you must take your time. Karma yoga teaches us that nothing comes instantaneously. Everything is a long learning process. So be patient and kind. Both will serve you well.

The Law of Karma

The law of karma requires that our soulful desires find fulfillment. Non-soulful desires are the chains that bind us to the reincarnation wheel. Our present task is simply to make this chapter of our life a happy and fulfilling journey. It is about releasing our souls from the bondage of karma so that we can find freedom, purity and serenity.

Each of us left something undone in a previous lifetime and this has caused us to return. The memories of what we did and did not do or say haunt our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind is the seat of the soul; also known as the intellectual layer of our energy. It is the memory track of the spirit. Balancing the energy of the lower chakras and lifting our energy above the lower layers of our being allows us to tap into the intellectual self and it is here that we have the opportunity to discover the soul’s purpose.

Remember, the present is created in the past or the memory. We must, however, not be too frustrated if we do not accomplish all that we would like in this lifetime. Simply let this chapter of your life be a reflection of a truthful, happy and loving existence. Remember, this is only a chapter in your book of life. There is no time limit for completion of the book. And yet in a sense there is a hurry because if you wish to end your suffering and continual rebirth you must sincerely seek to transcend the lower humanly aspects of yourself.

When we uncover our karmic obligation we are faced with a decision; to conquer our fears and guilt, or allow them to overwhelm us so that nothing gets resolved. To awaken and grow we must be willing to become the witness and observer of our lives and learn to live from a place of compassion, faith, balance, flexibility, serenity, peace, strength and divinity.

Not an easy task. It takes practice so let’s get started.

To discover your past lives, begin to use yoga and meditation to bring about the calmness needed to slip into your subconscious intellectual self. Make notes to yourself: What are your favorite foods? What part of the world or culture are you drawn to? What comes naturally to you? What is it in your life that flows?  What is it in your life that is a recurrent problem? Be on the lookout for people, places and things that will give you clues as to why you are here and what this is all about.

Reincarnation – how did I get here?

To understand karma we need to begin with an understanding of reincarnation.

Whether you believe in reincarnation or not it is an interesting subject for most people.  According to karma yoga and physicist we are simply a bundle of energy. And according to the laws of thermodynamics energy is never lost, but simply changes form. Our energy field (body, mind, soul) is a subtle form of motion like a wave or a pulse that goes on and on.  But to fully understand anything we must understand it’s opposite. So if we can only know on by knowing off is it possible that we can only know we are alive by knowing we had once been dead?

If we are simply a bundle of energy and we follow the laws of thermodynamics we can conclude that our energy is never lost, it simply changes form.  So it would stand to reason that when we die our energy just changes to a different form of energy and that energy maintains the potential to return again to earth and change its form again.  It takes strength, balance and flexibility to take on form. So as you work through the yoga class today, think about yourself as a bundle on energy that has taken on the strength to survive and flourish, balance so you might navigate through life and flexibility so that you might endure the ever changing nature of life. Let’s get started.

You are a bundle of energy that has chosen to reincarnate into this body and this life for the “soul” purpose of working through your karma. Hold onto your strength; you will need it to survive and flourish; work on your balance; it will be challenged with every step you take and stay flexible and open to change. For the one thing you can absolutely sure of is that life will change. In this you will evolve.

The Spiritual Force

As humans we are all walking the path of life because of the spiritual force of the universe. We call this prana or the force that gives rise to all of life. We are here with a body, a mind and soul working to undo some piece of karma.

The body is the vehicle. The mind is the GPS. The soul is the part of you that sits beneath your body and behind the mind. Sometimes you get a hunch, a feeling or perhaps a quiet moment when you sense the nature of your soul. In that moment you know you are touching something deeper within yourself. The soul holds your mission and so the spiritual force initiates the process of discovery. This is how we learn, know and master our lives. Practicing karma yoga helps us to initiate the process of discovering which requires balance, strength, flexibility and the ability to find peace amongst the chaos of life.

Your soul has taken this body and this mind to complete your karmic mission. It’s up to you to discover the mission, get on the path, and walk with your soul. Most likely anyone who says they are spiritual may in fact simply mean that they are soulfully walking the spiritual path one step at a time. They are not the spiritual force; that’s prana, but because of the spiritual force they are on earth to walk the path. You are a soul walking the spiritual path and not the spiritual force walking the soulful path. There is a difference. The soul is you. The spirit is the force that gives rise to existence. “May the force be with you.”

#Yoga Today ~The Observing Principle

Although the soul has an infinite ability for creativity it only has three central activities: thinking, speaking, doing. These three activities create our karma and all karma seeks expression through your thoughts, words and deeds.

To lighten or soften your karma (your aura) you need to manifest certain actions and prohibit others.  For example: practicing kindness rather than anger. The physical practice of yoga helps us to learn to become motionless and balanced without losing consciousness.  The mental emotional part of yoga teaches us to quiet and purify our thoughts and the soulful part of yoga reminds us to observe life without attachment while remaining present and aware. Observe, detach, but never be indifferent. It also reminds us that life is ever changing and so to navigate life we need balance, strength, flexibility and peace. Let’s get started.

The soul has infinite ability for creativity, but it only has three central activities; thinking speaking and doing. This is how we both create and annihilate karma; thinking, speaking and doing. Karma yoga teaches us how to be balanced, flexible, strong and at peace while holding onto awareness. This is how we change the coloration of our aura and thus create and annihilate karma.  Karma is simply cause and effect so observe everything you think, say and do. This is known as our witnessing consciousness; the observing principle of life.
