#Yoga Today Suggested Guidepost #Nonviolence

Part of the practice of yoga is to be open, aware and observant of the power of suggestion. These suggestions are simply things you might want to consider when it comes to living your life. They are not rules. You don’t need to follow them. But they might bring a deep sense of understanding to your life.  Don’t worry about mastering them. Just be aware of how and when they appear in your life and how you handle them. Let them sit in your subconscious mind and watch them appear as guidepost along the path of Soul Walking.

All suggestions should be considered in thought, word and deed.

Nonviolence is the first suggestion. When we think of violence we often think of physical abuse. Although this is one form of violence, negative and hateful thoughts, as well as harsh and mean words are a form of violence. Gossip, insulting statements and bad advice are also forms of verbal violence. Remember that violence towards you, as well as allowing or encouraging others to be violent is to be avoided.

Your “soul” purpose for being here is to find and walk the soulful path.  Self-centeredness, inconsideration, lack of compassion and violence will take you off the soulful path. It matters not how far you get, but what you do along the way. Reincarnation is simply another chance to get back on the path. However, the farther you get in this lifetime the shorter the journey in the next.

Nonviolence does not mean only outward violence. It also means violence towards you. Self-criticism always hurts the soul. Cruel and angry thoughts, words and deeds toward others will also take you off the path. You are not about your body and your mind, but your body and your mind are about you. They are the vehicle and the GPS for your soul. So treat them well and most of all make sure you are kind to yourself. That inner kindness will radiate outward and be received by everyone and everything you encounter. To practice nonviolence - Be kind.
