Free Yoga lesson – Pleasure and Pain

There are things in life that bring us pleasure and there are things that bring us pain. But often times those things that brings us pleasure turn into pain and those that bring pain turn into pleasure.

An example; to love someone or something brings us pleasure. But that very same love can also bring us unhappiness, hatred, sadness and jealousy.
Anger can bring pain, but if the anger is there to correct an injustice or a problem it can bring great joy and happiness.

The question is all a matter of motive. Whatever the thought is, if there is selfishness behind it, it will only bring you pain. So it is up to us to develop selfless thoughts; thoughts without expectations or motives. This means to live in the moment, pure and simple, happy and content with life as it is. If it appears painful turn inward and examine your thoughts. Likewise if it appears pleasurable turn inward and examine your thoughts.

Yoga is about stopping, being quiet and analyzing your thoughts, words and deeds. Be selfless. Make others happy and you will always be happy and find peace.
Is this easy? No. That is why we practice yoga. If you want to achieve anything (happiness) you must practice.

Spiritual Fitness

Aero*boga is about acknowledging and activating the life force that surrounds all of us. It thereby affects the very nature of our being. In Sanskrit (the ancient Aryan language), and in yoga, many references are made to Gods, Goddesses, Lords and Divas as forces of energy that dance around the universe. These forces of energy affect all of us.
Becoming aware of this energy and learning how to use it constructively, to bring balance and fitness to the body, mind, and spirit, is the essence of Aero*boga.

The life force that vitalizes everything in the universe is called Prana. It is actually the energy responsible for the movement of all consciousness in the world.  Prana is about vitality and balance and this is what brings about health and fitness. Integrating this energy of consciousness into the body-mind allows us to tap into the spiritual energy of our soul.

A recipe for Happiness – Saffron the Yellow Bloom

Yellow is a color that lifts our spirits. We see this in SAD (seasonal affected disorder). For many people a lack of sunshine creates a sad and depressing mood. However, I would safely say that for everyone a beautiful sunny day makes us all feel a little happier.

If you want to stimulate your memory and remember something jot it down of yellow paper. That’s because yellow is the most memorable of all the colors. Yellow tends to raise blood pressure and increase pulse rate, but not to the degree of red. It is subtle, energizing, uplifting and can help to lift a sad or depressed mood.

Although saffron tends to increase our physical heart rate and pulse it contains the chemical crocetin which actually lowers high blood pressure. Some people even speculate that the low incidence of heart disease in Spain is due to the nation’s high consumption of saffron.

But can saffron really make you happy? Well it is the world’s most expensive spice. Saffron is the threads from the stigmas of the sativus crocus flower. It takes about 13,125 threads to make one ounce. There are only three stigmas per flower. Saffron is handpicked. That is why it is so expensive.
Although Saffron is used in traditional Persian and Spanish cuisine it also has a magical and medicinal aspect. In fact non-Persians in ancient times feared the use of saffron believing it drugged people and induced sexual promiscuous behavior. However, Cleopatra is said to have bathed in saffron to make her love making more pleasurable. The Phoenicians marketed the spice as  a cure for melancholy and Buddhist monks adopted the color of saffron for their robes.

Modern medicine has discovered that saffron has anticancer, anti mutation and antioxidant proprieties. A tea made from saffron is said to help cure alcoholism and to lift depression.
Saffron is also associated with Eos the goddess of dawn who is said to open the gate to the sun each morning bringing sunlight and joy.

Saffron contains over 150 aromatic oils. It also has many nonvolatile components like carotonoids and lycopene. Actually lycopene is a carotonoid that has anticancer components that are more powerful than Vitamin E.

So if the yellow color of the crocus flower doesn't make you smile the fact that you can uplift your anticancer protection by simply eating the world’s most expensive spice while also uplifting a sad mood and enhance love making, sure makes adding saffron to your diet a happy proposition.

Yoga Lesson - Who are you?

You are the one who knows and the one who sees. But who are you? If you answer this with, your name, your occupation, your status, your height, your weight or the color of your eyes, you begin to identify yourself (your body) with the thoughts in your mind.  But without any identification, who are you?

If we detach ourselves from all the things we identify ourselves with, we find the pure “I” and this pure “I’ is nothing more than pure energy.  Everything in the universe is made up of energy. The difference in persons, places and things is found in the molecular structure and the movement of energy. Water is molecules of energy. If we speed up the energy (heat it) it becomes steam and if we slow it down it becomes ice. It’s still the same water.

So if we look behind the different forms of energy we will find one unchanging consciousness known as the spirit.

No two individuals are alike in body and in mind. But we are all the same spiritual force of energy. Behind all of life is one never changing force; spirit. It is our minds that construct and identify the world into persons, place and things. So by simply changing our minds we can change everything.
Yoga is based upon self- reformation, self- control and self- adjustment. Simply, this means that is any given situation we have the power to change our point of view, then we must apply the discipline it takes to hold that point of view and then apply it to the situation.

Example: you are angry at someone. Change your point of view. See this person with compassion. They are no different that you or me. Now hold that compassion no matter how much your mind tries to draw you back into a state of anger. Then interact with them with a sense of compassion and understanding. You have reformed, controlled and adjusted to the situation is a compassionate and understanding way.

Not easy. Nothing is achieved without practice. That is why we practice yoga.

Spiritual Fitness

It is important to remember that spiritual fitness is a process. This process begins with this first question: Why am I here in this place and living this life? The second step is assessing your lifestyle and implementing change. As long as the body-mind is thrashing about, it is difficult to achieve clarity. Clarity is what sets us on the spiritual path.

Be quiet, be still and listen, and you will hear the voice of your soul.

Yoga Lesson – The One Who Sees and Knows

If you control your mind you control everything. You are both the seer and the knower. You see and you know. But you are neither your body nor your mind. You are the peaceful quiet energy of your soul. To understand, imagine that I ask you to look in a mirror. The mirror is curved and concave. The image you see will not be an accurate reflection of your face. It will be a distortion. If I make the mirror perfectly smooth and clean you will see your reflection without any distortions. Only then can you truly see your reflection.

The mind is like a mirror. If it is muddy, wavy or dirty, you will begin to think this is the true you. You will see all sorts of distortions such as anger, hate, fear and stress. But if the mind becomes clear and smooth like the perfect mirror you will see your true self which is quiet, calm and peaceful.

When the mind cease to create citta (mind stuff) it is perfectly clear of the movement (distortion) we create with our emotions and our thoughts. The mind then sees and knows itself as still and calm like a placid lake. It is the true seer and the knower.
The true you, is always the same, but you appear to be distorted because of the citta that goes through your mind. By making the mind pure and calm you go back to your original state of being, which is calm, quiet and at peace.

This is not an easy task. Nothing is achieved without practice. That is why we practice yoga.

Namaste

The true you is always the same. It is the mind with its thoughts, desires and emotions that distorts our view. Quiet the mind and experience the real you – the one who sees and the one who knows. Control your thoughts and you control everything.

Hydrophilic Foods

Do you know what they are and why you should eat them?

Translated form Greek, hydrophilic means “loving water.”  In terms of food and nutrient it means foods that attract and retain water. They fill you up without filling you out!

These foods are packed with soluble fiber which attracts water and forms a gel-like solution that slows down digestion. As a result these foods make you feel fuller longer. They help you to manage and even lose weight. Further because they are slower to digest they help to keep your blood sugar level and keep insulin in check. Another benefit is that they can help to lower LDL cholesterol.

Here is a list of ten (although there are many) hydrophilic foods to add to your grocery list:

Oatmeal, agar, Brussel sprouts, barley, okra, kidney beans, oranges and pears.

Because you are what you eat!

Yoga and Citta -Liberate Yourself

Citta is the mind stuff. It is our thoughts, emotions and processing center. The mind has different levels. There is the ego or the “I’. Then there is the part of the mind that gets attracted to outside senses.

A want arises, then an effort takes place to fulfill that want, and once you fulfill it you are back to your original place of peace. So naturally you are a state of peace. It is the citta that disturbs you.
The entire world is based upon your thoughts and your mental attitudes. It is from here you project the world. But remember what may make you happy today may be meaningless tomorrow.

Yoga is not about changing the outside world. It is about learning how to control the inner world or the citta. Yoga has a saying, “as the mind so the person.” Bondage and liberation are in your mind. If you feel bound by the world you will be bound and if you feel liberated you will be liberated.
Nothing is achieved without practice. This is why we practice yoga.

Try a seat twist pose. Just sit in easy pose or even in a chair. Take a deep breath and twist your spine to one side. As you twist into the pose, ask yourself, do I feel twisted like a knot or liberated by the range of motion given to me by my spine.

If you learn to control your mind, you control everything. Then there is nothing in the world to bind you.

A Recipe for Sex - Shrimp - it’s no little thing

Are those little sweet crustaceans really a sex tonic? Famed French mistress, Madame DuBerry served her shrimp in Champagne sauce. Casanova’s traveling companion, Agnolo Torredano, said of shrimp that it was the “food of life that makes it possible for the cold, old body to still enjoy the heat of passion.”

In the United States spicy shrimp gumbo has a long history of being a salacious stew. And a little farther south in the Caribbean it is believe that eating shrimp during sex doubles the pleasure. What is it about these little creatures that are so sexy?

Shrimp provide iodine which is essential to the thyroid gland and basal metabolism. Iodine deficiency has been documented as reducing sex drive. Like many forms of seafood, shrimp offer iodine and omega-3 fatty acid – great for circulation and vital in the battle against aging. Shrimp also serve up a good portion of zinc and iron- two erotic minerals. When digested shrimp protein breaks down in the body to produce the amino acid phenylalanine, which increases levels of sex boosting neurotransmitters in the brain.

Archeologists have found evidence that shrimp and other crustaceans such as lobster, were eaten by sea-dwelling humans. I grew up off the coast of Maine in a small fishing village. My family fished for shrimp in the harsh winters of Maine. Shrimp Pea Wiggle was a dish we ate in the winter. I always thought my mother made up this name as a fun way to get us to eat our dinner, but it turns out that Shrimp Pea Wiggle is a New England dish. Nobody seemed to know where it originated from but it was a staple in New England cuisine.

Shrimp Pea Wiggle is shrimp tossed into a bĂ©chamel sauce with peas added and served over toast points. It is hearty and warm on a cold winter’s day. Everyone in the family went to work to create this dish.

The fresh shrimp would be brought in off the boats caught by the family fisherman and then we would all go to work de-heading and shelling the little creatures. My mother would make the sauce and create the dish. Unfortunately, for me if you have eaten fresh shrimp right off the boat anything else is tasteless.

May-be the name has a sexual undertone. Shrimp Pea Wiggle just might make you wiggle and it certainly will make you giggle and isn't wiggling and giggling a part of good sex? Perhaps there is more to this dish than a hearty meal?

Whatever the origin, seafood and especially the Mediterranean diet, which is mostly fish and seafood, provides us with essential nutrients that gets the metabolic fires burning and boost the sexual neurons making shrimp no little sexual thing!

Yoga Today –Restraining the Mind

The mind is full of citta or mind stuff. It is the nature of the mind to think and to wander. The goal of yoga is to quiet the mind so that it exist in a state of small ripples rather than the crashing and thrashing of the waves known as emotions. If you can control the mind into just a rising of ripples, you have experienced yoga.
We project the world. The world does not exist outside of us. We create our world through our own projecting. That is why, when we practice yoga, we don’t worry about changing the outside world. We focus on quieting the inner self and bringing the mind to a state of gentle ripples.

Sit quiet and close your eyes. Listen quietly to your breath. As you focus on the inhale and the exhale you will begin to feel the tension leave your body and mind settle into a place of gentle ripples.

Nothing is achieved without practice. This is why we practice yoga.

A Recipe for Health - Peas Please

Did you know that peas are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, thiamine (B1), iron and phosphorus? They are rich in protein, carbohydrate and fiber and low in fat which is mostly of the unsaturated kind. Half a cup of frozen peas has only 5% of the daily value for sodium. Foods low in sodium are good for your heart. An 85 gram serving of peas, cooked, provides 50 calories, 4 grams of protein, 8 grams of carbohydrate (of which 3.5 grams are sugars), 3.8 grams of fibre, 17mg of vitamin C (28% of the recommended daily allowance) and 0.2mg Thiamine (B1) (15% of the recommended daily allowance).

Thiamine or B1 plays an important role in regulating the metabolism of carbohydrates in the body. Thiamine is also necessary for the growth and maintenance of healthy skin. The cells of the nervous system are extremely sensitive to carbohydrate metabolism. This may be why the brain and the nerves are the first to show thiamine deficiency. Thiamine is needed as a catalyst for the metabolism of carbohydrates so it should come as no surprise that the more carbohydrates we eat the more thiamine we need.

There was a preliminary study that indicates thiamin levels drop significantly after surgery, during a fever, over active muscular activity and during physical and emotional stress. Some of the symptoms of thiamin deficiency include loss of memory, nervous disorder, leg cramping, fatigue and irritability.
Fortunately, many foods including organ meats, soybeans, wholes grains, brown rice, egg yolks and peas supply us with thiamin. In our over active and over stressed world getting adequate nutrition is essential. So pass the peas please.

Freshly frozen garden peas and petits pois are frozen within just two and a half-hours of being picked. This locks in all the nutrients, which can be lost at room temperature. Peas are just about the most versatile vegetable in the world. They taste great in risotto, omelets, pizzas, pastas, soups, salads, casseroles and curries.

The UK grows the largest supply of the world’s peas. However, peas are widely used in just about every culture and in many native dishes to many different countries including all of Europe, India, Asia and the Americas.

Here’s some pea facts for you: A monk by the name of Gregor Johann Mendel (1822-1884), worked with peas to lay the foundation for modern day genetics.  A 16th century treatise of the art of love says that peas boiled with onions and a dash of cinnamon is an aphrodisiac. Birds Eye frozen peas advertisement was the first color add on TV. If you threaded every frozen pea produced each year in the UK onto a piece of string you would need 3,900,000 kms of string, which would stretch from the earth to the moon and back more than five times And did you know that there is an etiquette to eating peas? The British love their peas but eating them properly is a must. Most people shovel or spear peas; the Brits smash them on the back of their forks and eat them. So smash away and enjoy these little green pills of natural health.

Six Things to Bring Concentration into Your life

There are six things that will support concentration and bring balance into your life. Here are the first two:

1.    1.  Curtail your wants and needs. You don’t need to discard all your wants and needs, only those that are superficial and not necessary. An example would be having a better car. A want and need to keep would be happiness.  Better to place your concentration and energy on developing happiness, peace and health than on material gains. Concentrate on those three things and the rest will come.

2.    2.   Limit your life’s activities to those that are the most significant. This will improve your lifestyle, reduce stress and bring you longevity. An example would be spending time with those you love as opposed to  working long hours, watching TV or surfing the net.

If you have your health, are happy and you are at peace in the world you have everything.

A recipe for Love - Think Green

Green is the color, according to color therapist and yogis, that is associated with the heart chakra. It both supports heart health and is the energy center for love. The color green is a neutralizing balancing and centering color. Connected to the heart chakra the color green is the quality of air, openness, expansiveness and unconditional love.

The color green in fruits and vegetables is a mark of nutrients rich vitamin and minerals. Darker and richer greens such as that found in kale is a great source of calcium and other essential vitamins and minerals. Kale is also a great antioxidant vegetable with beta carotene, vitamin K and lutien making it a great source for heart health.

Kale is much milder in flavor than collard greens but equally as nutrious. The minerals in kale have been shown to help the liver detoxify the body and to help to prevent cancer. Although often times used as a garnish kale makes a wonderful side dish.

Kale like all of the cabbage family is easy to grow and survives in cold and harsh conditions. It’s a hearty food that for many years was considered a “poor man’s food”. Thankfully today chefs are beginning to appreciate the nutritional value of kale. It is low in calories, low in fat and high in vitamins and minerals making it an ideal food for those watching their weight and supporting their health.

Love sometimes comes in a funny form. The cabbage family is not necessarily the prettiest of vegetables and it’s rather bitter and strong taste can be “off putting”. But it’s nutritional value cannot be denied. Sometimes those things that look the least lovable are the most giving and supporting of all.

Kale like love, sometimes must endure harsh conditions in order to flower and grow. Its presence can be bitter sweet. However, love is more than just the attraction to something exciting and new. Love is something that grows and gives with an eye to health and well being. We worry about those we love and we make every effort to see that they are cared for and nourished in body, mind and soul.

Now I can’t say I’ve always been in love with Kale. For years it was a garnish to me but then suddenly I discovered its rich dark slightly bitter taste and its rich nutritional value. Sometimes it takes maturing a bit, experiencing a bit and opening up to new possibilities that allows a healthy love to enter your life. Hail to kale!

Yoga today - The Third Secret to Concentration

The first secret is to be able to gently pull your mind back to the object of concentration. It is the nature of the mind to drift. We must learn to consciously and gently pull the mind back.

The second secret to concentration is the ability to hold your mind to the object without adding details. Remove the details of what makes you happy and just focus on happiness.

The third secret to concentration is the mode of return.  Let’s close our eyes and focus on happiness. What makes you happy? Observe the mind wander and fill in the details. Now gently bring the mind back to the object of concentration; the feeling of pure happiness. Sit for a moment and feel happiness. Don’t be concerned if the mind begins to fill in details. It is the nature of the mind to wander. If we follow the details gently and then bring the mind back to the experience of pure happiness we have completed the cycle known as the mode of return. We have learned how to gently bring the mind back and experience happiness independent of anything.

A Recipe for Happiness –Marsala-Marsala-Marsala

Its’ all in the grapes; so it has been said. Catarratto, grillo and Inzolia are the three primary grapes that make up Marsala wine. These grapes blended together create a port like wine referred to as Marsala wine.
Marsala is made in the “solera” tradition; meaning a melding of years. First a keg is filled with wine from the current vintage of grapes. Later vintage wines with similar taste are placed in kegs above the current keg. When liquid is drawn from the bottom of the oldest keg, it is refreshed with wine from the next keg and so on. The taste remains the same with every bottle of wine (potentially) the same as the first.

Marsala is a city in the west section of Sicily, the island near the foot end of Italy. In 1798 the Sicilians managed to substitute their own wines in place of the standard rum in an English naval shipment. In those seafaring days, something had to be done to wine to allow it to last the long ocean journeys.  Brandy was added to allow the wine to last longer, and to be more resistant to temperature changes. These were called "fortified wines."

Once the British tasted Marsala wine the demand grew. In the United States during prohibition Marsala wine was bottled to look like medicine. This made it less risky to get wine. Although not as popular now for drinking, Marsala wine is still used in cooking.

Through a melding of the years ( solera), blending together three bold grapes and fortifying the wine; marsala wine had a great shelf life, gave a better kick, was readily available and tasted great. That’s enough to make  anyone happy! What else could we want but to meld the years of our life into a blended taste of experience fortified with wisdom?

Sicily is a vast wealth of culture influences by the Arabs, the Europeans, the Greeks and the Romans. Many legends abound. One is worth remembering. Zeus had a son named Dionysus the God of fertility, joy and well being. Dionysus left the kingdom and headed for Sicily with the root of a grape vine. To carry the vine safely he first planted it in the bone of a bird, then the bone of a lion and finally the bone of a donkey. The vine flourished and so did the following saying; "A good glass of wine makes you light as a bird, another drink and you are courageous as a lion, but when you exaggerate with wine, you end up an ass!"

Sharing with joy and well being a glass or two of a good wine with an appreciation for the culture, nature and history of the things we consume makes tipping a glass or two a happy moment. Smile, be happy and enjoy!

Yoga today - The Second Secret to Concentration

The first secret is to be able to gently pull your mind back to the object of concentration. It is the nature of the mind to drift. We must learn to consciously and gently pull the mind back. Last week we focused on happiness. Let’s sit for a moment and focus on being happy. Close your eyes and focus on what make you feel happy. Take a few breathes and enjoy the moment.

The second secret to concentration is the ability to hold your mind to the object without adding details. Remove the details of what makes you happy and just focus on happiness. You will notice that as you begin to experience happiness the mind will wander and you will begin to fill in details about the place, person and things that make you happy. Try to hold your mind onto pure happiness. Be happy independent of anything. We are attempting to isolate happiness from everything else in the universe so that we can experience pure happiness. We are attempting to separate our consciousness from the matrixes of life and gain insight into our consciousness for it is in consciousness that we have the opportunity to truly know happiness. It is not outside of you. It is found within.

Don’t worry if you struggle with this. Just gently bring the mind back to the moment and know that with practice and dedication you will soon discover the secret to happiness.

A recipe for Sex – It’s not just Vanilla

Did you know vanilla is an aphrodisiac? Vanilla is not just plain old vanilla. It has qualities that make it the most widely used flavoring. It’s expensive, second only to saffron. It is a flavoring extracted from the orchid genus vanilla which grow in Mexico. It is also cultivated in other countries.
There are three main commercial uses of vanilla; in the pod, ground and as an extract. All three are used in products. Since vanilla is every expensive often times artificial vanilla flavoring is used in baked goods and other foods. Beware of artificial vanilla- it’s just plain fake.

The major use of vanilla is in flavoring ice cream and the most common ice cream is vanilla. Therefore it developed the nick name “plain vanilla” to mean a default or common basic flavor which is not true at all. Vanilla is often times used to enhance chocolate and other flavored ice creams and foods.
Vanilla is considered an aphrodisiac.  The Aztecs used it as an aphrodisiac and in 1776 a German study gave men a medication based upon flavored vanilla, which was said to cure their impotence.

Vanilla has been used as a popular scent in Aromatherapy since the late 80s, described in 1991 by Sloan-Kettering as,
"Vanilla, a homey scent which may remind people of food, may be a preferred scent [for this stress research test]. Its recent rise in commercial popularity is well-deserved."

But is it really an aphrodisiac? When it comes to sex vanilla is often referred to as just plain old boring sex. Could this not be true? If vanilla is so expensive and if vanilla is the major flavoring that is added to other flavors to enhance them then if we add plain good old vanilla to the other flavors of sex don’t we enhance them?

Vanilla is considered an aphrodisiac because the scent of vanilla (the chemical molecules) mixes with human pheromones and enhances our scent making us more attractive to a potential sex partner. That’s why vanilla is includes in so many perfumes. Vanilla also quells the appetite for sweet foods. The scent seems to give us sweet thoughts instead of sweet cravings and sweet thought are good for sexual appetite!
Drop vanilla beans in brandy or dessert wine and let them sit for a few days. The vanilla will release into the liquor and add a delicious flavor. Drop a bean into a cup of hot coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Burn vanilla candles (make sure they are aromatherapy candle and good quality).

Or add a little vanilla to a sweet dessert and serve it to your lover. The flavor and scent will excite the sense and surely bring thoughts of sex to your body, mind and soul.

Concentration -three secrets

There are three secrets for controlled thinking or yoga concentration. Concentration is the ability to hold your mind to an objective and make that objective subjective or yours. Lets’ say you want to concentrate on happiness. It is objective or outside of you until you learn how to concentrate on it and make it you. This takes practice. It matter not how many times your mind wanders away from the object, what matters is how gently you bring your mind back to the object of concentration. The nature of the mind is the wander. The first secret is that no matter how far the mind wanders you gently bring it back. Concentration begins when the mind of its own volition holds to the object without any departure.

Let’s concentrate on happiness: Close your eyes and focus on something that makes you happy. In your mind hold your focus.  Breathe happiness into your being. What does happiness feel like? Sit with this for a moment.

Happiness - To me is a feeling of joy and delight, and I find that when I hear the sound of laughter especially from the ones I love.

Most recently we had a family party. All of the children and grandchildren and great grandchildren were there. It was the laughter that made me the happiest.

A Recipe for Health – is Boron boring?

Is Boron a boring trace mineral? What does it have to do with your health? Isn’t it best known as Borax -- a cleanser and mineral used in the making of glass?

Boron is a trace mineral found in plants. Plants take the mineral out of the soil and give it back to us when we eat the fruits and vegetables. We cannot get our minerals directly from the soil so we are dependent upon plant life to supply us with the necessary minerals to insure health.

Boron has recently been shown to be effective in preventing bone loss and deterioration. In a US Agricultural study boron was given to post menopausal women, who were at high risk of osteoporosis. The results of the study suggest that boron works much like estrogen to help prevent bone loss. But don’t rush out and buy boron supplements. A healthy diet and a multi- vitamin should give you enough boron. Check with your primary physician if you are considering supplementing.

There appears to be no shortage of boron in humans due to only a limited amount of boron is needed and it is highly available through the fruits and vegetables we eat. Boron is a trace mineral and not an essential mineral meaning we only need trace amounts for health.

Fruits and vegetables are the best sources for boron; meat and fish are poor sources. A diet containing a variety of fruits and vegetables will supply adequate amounts of boron. One such fruit that is rich in boron is the pear. Pears contain large amounts of boron and thus pears help to prevent osteoporosis.
Besides boron, pears are an excellent source of water-soluble fiber.  They contain vitamins A, B1, B2, C, E, folic acid and niacin.  It is also rich in copper, phosphorus and potassium, with lesser amounts of calcium, chlorine, iron, magnesium, sodium and sulfur.

Some varieties have more iron content than others.  This can be seen when a cut pear turns brown.  If it doesn't turn brown, it means that the iron content is very low or non-existent.

In Greek and Roman mythology the pear was sacred to Pomona the  Roman goddess of gardens and trees. In Europe it was customary to plant fruits trees when a couple got married. The longevity and fruitfulness of the trees were thought to give strength to the marriage and children. As each child arrived, an apple tree was planted for every boy and a pear tree for each girl.

Somehow, boron doesn’t seem so boring when you bite into a fresh succulent pear and partake of all the wonderful nutrients that nature so aptly provides. If we let her; Mother Nature will always take care of our health.

The Seven Spiritual Rays of Discernment - Who, what, where, why, which, how and when

Everything on earth sprang forth from the seven rays of light. Light is energy. It is the essence of life. According to Karma we are all here to live out our purpose and find meaning. The problem arises when we distort the pure nature of life which can only be found through the soul.

Life began from a burst of energy. Whether you call this pure consciousness, God, the Absolute or the big bang all of life began as a burst of cosmic energy. This energy burst into the seven rays of light or the seven rays of discernment. This burst created both an outer sense of reality and an inner sense of knowing. The outer separates us. It is called the ego. The inner unites us. It is known as the cosmic consciousness.
As human being we are constantly seeking meaning. It is what motivates us and gives us a sense of purpose. We all seek to discover the unity and oneness and this is what defines the soul within us. The soul is the inherent divine sense that gives us purpose, direction and fulfills our destiny.

We all take on a false sense of self. This is known as the ego. It traps us into a life of illusion, temptation and seduction. It distorts our pure view of the world. It traps us into thinking that success is in having rather than being. The soul becomes less and the physical world becomes more. This always leads to a feeling of wanting, lacking and needing.

We witness this every day in the struggles we all feel. In our distorted view of the world we get attached to things, relationships, looking good, having more and being successful. The material world limits us and thus we become stuck in our limitations and experience unhappiness and disappointment.

Every situation in life presents us with an opportunity. We can either separate and live from the ego or internalize and reconnect with the soul. If our goal is to find the inner unity in life, we will find that when we express our inherent gifts we achieve harmony and flow easily with life. The problem arises when we distort life and see ourselves as separate (the ego). This creates fear and discord.

Once we begin to consciously recognize how we distort our lives we can with concentration and commitment overcome the obstacles and begin to express our inherent gifts and thus liberate the soul and reach a state of enlightenment.

Concentrated effort to transcend the distortions of life creates peace and harmony, and in that you will discover your purpose and meaning.

To simplify – it is that place where you consciously observe the expression of yourself and learn to step back from the distortions (deceit, a greed anger and pride) and align yourself with the inner voice of the soul.
Follow along as we discover the seven rays and the discover the distortions and how to voer come them.
