Character is defined as the mental
and moral qualities of an individual. We build character through our life experiences
which simply means life will present us with many opportunities to both develop
our character and to use our character to make decisions and to solve problems.
Our character is build based upon our moral and ethical underpinning. Without a
moral compass or rules of conduct life would spiral into chaos. But we must be
careful for morals and ethic are based upon cultural views and we must remember
that although we need rules to guide us in life there is no justice in life;
just ask a mother who has lost a child in a senseless shooting where justice
exists? And because there is no justice in life we need laws based upon a set
of rules of order; character is built based upon these morals and ethics. Karma yoga is also based upon a set of laws;
the most basic and fundament is that life
becomes what life does and the second is that for every effect there is a cause.
So we should look to our own character and not be quick to judge others. The question then becomes how do you
build character? Character is reflected in how you react to things. When you see an injustice can you remain
strong, steady, balanced, open and flexible and find peace amongst the chaos of
life? This is our greatest challenge in life?
For it is so easy for all of us to imposed judgment and voice our
opinion without understanding the cause. When we impose judgment we break another
fundamental laws of karma; do no harm. Karma yoga means to work on your character
so that when faced with any situation in
life we remain strong, balanced, flexible and find peace; let’s get to work.
Character is defined as the mental
and moral qualities of an individual. We build character through our life experiences
which simply means life will present us with many opportunities to both develop
our character and to use our character to make decisions and solve problems.
How you make decisions and how you solve problems is based upon your ability to
remain strong when faced with opposition, to keep your balance rather than be
swayed by temptation and to be open and flexible without judgement. Observe
your reactions to life; judge not. Remember there is no justice in life only
laws or rules of conduct. Money, power and prestige come and go but character last
for lifetimes. Choose wisely.
