Why we need balance

An absence of virtue is a disturbance in the natural balance of nature. Nature is pure and vices such as worry, hate, fear, jealousy, anger, greed, cruelty, self-love, instability, ignorance, and pride disturb the balanced energy of the soul. Science even tells us that when there is an energy imbalance in the body-mind, it results in a breakdown of the system, otherwise known as disease.

Disease of the body is not necessarily due to physical causes, but rather to certain disturbing moods or states of mind that interfere with an individual’s happiness. This is because the mind and its infinite energy exercises control over the mental and physical state of every human being. The mind however can either draw its energy from the intellect self, which is the energy of the soul, or from the lower layer of self and get caught in emotion. In these lower layers stress, worry or fear results in a loss of peace and serenity. This energy transports through the body’s nerves system sending a message that disturbs the balance and health of the body. Continued stress and worry create energy that eventually deprives the body of vitality.

Although the soul is our purpose for being here on earth we often usurp its importance in favor of the body and the mind. We relegate the soul to the back of the bus. But it does not feel slighted. It quietly sits back watching the body-mind act out its life. It matters not whether it gets heard in this life or the many lives hereafter. A life is a blink of time for the soul. It knows eventually it will get where it desires to go. But we do need the body and the mind to take us on this journey. They are the vehicle and the GPS. It behooves us to treat them well and attend to their good health.

What is the Paradox of Life?

Life is like the famous Buddhist paradox or Koan, What is the sound of one hand clapping? This places us outside the limitations of the rational mind. In life there is no right or wrong answer to this paradox as there are really no right or wrong answers to life.  How you live your life is based upon your morals and ethics, your level of consciousness and your a state of being. Like the Koan, paradoxically the content of your life is irrelevant and at the same time the content is necessary for the process of learning. It is only through the process that we learn, but the content is the teacher. You cannot discover love without an object to love.

The content of our lives provides us with the opportunity to discover, correct and adjust our being. Anger, for example, arises throughout our lives. It is not wrong nor is it right. We are presented with situations that create anger and then asked what we choose to do with them. We can be cruel or we can be kind. The choice is ours, and how and what we choose determines our karma. There is no right or wrong answer. It is simply cause an effect. If you act cruelly you become a cruel person.  So it is suggested that with all of life’s content we choose wisely because life presents itself to us for the “soul” purpose of using the process of life to remove vices and add virtues. Yoga is about the process and not about the content of the poses and yet we need the poses to help us discover balance, flexibility, strength and peace. Pay attention to the process and not the content.

Awareness is the task of exploring our vices and virtues. This is our purpose and our meaning; simply to gain virtues and leave behind our vices.  Our daunting task is to uncover the elements of self that need correction and replace them with virtues. The content of our lives is a vehicle full of potential for the “soul” purpose of bringing us awareness. It is only the potential. Unless we consciously choose to bring about constructive change our lives will appear to be chaotic, confusing and disappointing. The process of life is not about the content, but about the relationship we have with life and whether we choose to make it harmonious or tumultuous. This process of discovery is found through the contents of our lives. When we discover our true mission, the drama and dynamics of life give way to the process of enlightenment.

You are Many Layers of Energy – What are they?

Prana is the life force that gives rise to everything.  How do we know it exist? Take a breath. What cause you to breathe? Not oxygen, but prana.

According to Eastern thought, our being consists of seven layers of energy. The final and most noticeable layer of energy is the physical body. This layer of energy vibrates at a frequency lower than the other layers, which accounts for its visibility in the physical world. The higher frequency layers cannot be seen, but still have an effect on our physical self. All of the layers of energy are interdependent and cannot be separated. As long as consciousness exists the layers exist.

The seven layers of energy are as follows. The first is the physical self, the second is the etheric self or the vital energetic self (known as the aura), the third is the astral or emotional self, the fourth is the mental self where thoughts are formed, the fifth is the soul or intellectual self, the sixth is the cosmic self (sometimes called the “pure intelligent self”), and the seventh is like the Tao impossible to name, as it is beyond name and form. We call it prana. It is the integration and balance of all the layers of energy that create a harmonious aura and thus a healthy body, mind and soul.  We then use the energy to projects our strength, flexibility and balance outward from the center of our being.  When in balance we exude self-confidence, self-esteem, happiness and peace.

Just remember center everywhere circumference nowhere.

As we begin to expand our consciousness we will see patterns of behavior that have been dictating our lives. These forces are nothing more than energy that we have taken on for our own evolution. That is the purpose and true nature of our being. But we can remove them, change them and create them. That is karma and why it is said that we become the creator of our own destiny. This is also known as self-mastery. As we remove the veil of ignorance, we discover that our purpose for being here on earth is simply to remove vices and add virtues.  We discover this through the contents of our lives. When we discover how to use all the content of our present and past lives to   remove deceit, greed, anger and pride we are on the path to enlightenment. That’s soul walking.

Simplify and Purify Your Life

Simplify and purify your life – can you think of a better way to live? Only bring into your life what serves to bring health, happiness and peace to the body, mind and soul.

Think about purifying yourself today. Remove what you don’t need. Live simply for this one day, or just for this one hour.  This means to let go of the stress and complications that you have added into your life and flow purely with the energy of life.  Stress, emotions and worry weigh us down and in the end you take none of this with you. All you take is the punja or merits you gain through good deeds. The best deed of all is to be good to yourself. Appreciate all of life with a pure heart and an outstretched hand and be healthy body, mind and soul.

Let’s get started; Doctor Lynn’s Anti-Aging Yoga Dance

Do the best you can, be the best you can and live purely and simply. Can you think of a better way to live?

Nietzsche wrote – “one must be a sea to receive a polluted stream without becoming impure.” Today be the sea; open, expansive and receptive without losing your purity.

What is the force that gives rise to life?

Last week we briefly touched upon prana.  Prana is pure self. It is pure consciousness. This is the force that pushes the soul to reincarnate. It is the vital energy that brings everything into being. It lives in the organs of your body and unites all parts of the body into one unit. The soul attracts prana to the mind and the mind attracts prana to the body. It is the controlling force of the entire universe and beyond.

Everything exists due to Prana, just as everything exists due to energy. It is the vital force behind the movement of energy that causes all of creation. Prana is simply the movement that gives rise to breath, but is not the breath.. What causes us to take the first and last breath and all the breaths in-between? Prana- it is the life force.   It can take on any quality without losing its purity.

Prana gives vital energy to our bodies and also gives us the power to think. It is pure and simple and yet gives birth to the complexities of life. It is pure subconscious movement giving rise to conscious thought. Let’s take a breath and begin.

Prana and the mind move naturally. Rising and falling, appearing and disappearing. This movement is commonly referred to as thinking. Prana and mind exist together with prana being the principle of movement and the mind the principle of intelligence. All action requires Prana, just as all action requires at some level intelligence. However, this intelligence is not something that we measure like an IQ. This is the fifth layer of our being known as the intellectual self.

For the next week just pay attention to the movement of thoughts through your mind and the movement of your breath. Prana remember is simply the movement of energy. What you do with this energy is determine by how your soul chooses to walk upon the earth.  You must quiet the mind to hear your soul.  It will guide you. Use your breath to quiet your mind, listen and then walk softly, kindly and with compassion for all of life. In this you will be wise.

Health Tip- think blue

Cobalt – the color blue - a chemical element found in the earth’s crust – it is also an essential trace mineral that acts as a coenzyme and is associated with B-12. We need B-12 to aid in fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Cobalt is also needed to produce red blood cells. A deficiency in B-12 can cause problems with our nervous system. The best sources of B-12 Cobalt are found in animal kidney and livers. Other good sources are red meat, salmon, egg yolks, soy and sardines.  This is an essential vitamin-mineral so think blue and take care of your health.
